Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A representation of the ultimately tragic relationship between Sex Pistol’s bassist Sid Vicious (Gary Oldman) and Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb).
Kitty Cameos: In the middle of the film Sid has left The Sex Pistols and is struggling to maintain his solo career. At one show a group of friends and musicians calls Nancy over to look at a box of kittens.
Nancy picks out a tabby kitten.
Later the group is eating at a bar. Nancy has her kitten with her, and several of the others around the table have kittens as well.
As they leave the club, Nancy takes the kitten with her. They ride home in a taxi with the kitten along.
The kitten is seen in several other scenes with the mostly wasted couple.
When Nancy accidentally sets fire to their room, they have to move to another room downstairs and take the kitten with them.
The kitten is only seen once more. It’s not clear how they were able to care for the cat when they could barely take care of themselves, nor what ever became of the animal.
An interesting side note about the cats in this film is that Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks explains in his autobiography My Damage: The Story of a Punk Rock Survivor how he and the band members dubbed in the meows for the kittens. “There’s also a scene that involves a box of kittens, and we dubbed the sound of the cats meowing. I did such a great job as a cat impersonator that I was offered a role in the movie.” Sadly the role did not work out but the Circle Jerks were acknowledged as the kittens in the end credits.
Final Mewsings: A punk rock concert may not be the best place to give away kittens.
Many thanks to Craig @Hooded_Werewolf for letting us know about the kittens in this film!
