Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)
Starring: Stockard Channing, Will Smith
Directed by: Fred Schepisi
Synopsis: Based on the stage play by John Guare. A wealthy couple (Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland) are intrigued by a charming young man (Will Smith) who unexpectedly shows up on their doorstep one night.
Cat Cattle Call: A running joke in the story is how the young man, who claims to be the son of actor Sidney Poitier, says they are trying to make a film version of the musical Cats. In one scene the wife, Ouisa, explains how she dreamt of cats after the young man’s visit. We see her dream in which she is in bed with her husband (who is sleeping) talking to the young man and they are surrounded by cats.
The young man is capturing her imagination with his talk as both of them hold kittens.
Final Mewsings: Why don’t they make a film version of the musical Cats already?
