Slick Sleuths (1926)

by Linda Kay

Directed by: Charles R. Bowers, Bud Fisher

Synopsis: Comic strip pals Mutt and Jeff don detective caps and take on the ominous job of tracking down the shape-shifting Phantom.

Cartoon Cat: The Phantom, who is nothing more than a wisp of black smoke most of the time, manages to elude the pair repeatedly, often leaving them holding something else. One time they are left with a black cat who stands looking back and forth in startled fashion before running off.
