Synopsis: Mayor George Boswell (John Mills) reminisces about his lifelong fight for the underprivileged workers in a Lancashire mining town as well as the love in his life.

Purr Blurs: In one scene George’s friend Dr. Whiteside (Trevor Howard) is seen exiting the home of one of the workers. A black and white kitten is sitting on a wall nearby. The kitten turns around and jumps off the wall.

Later the residents of the poor town are hurrying to a makeshift clinic to get diptheria vaccine shots for the children. As a woman and her son exit their home another kitten with what appears to be calico markings can be seen sitting on the windowsill.
