Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this web series!
Synopsis: Two average guys named Philip (Dan Beirne) and Ken (Mark Little) find themselves caught up in a bit of intergalactic do-gooding when they accidentally fall into the roles of the new Space Riders to battle the evil Orson Ooze (Kayla Lorette) who wants to destroy the Earth.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): This hilarious web series can currently be viewed on Hulu. Our interest begins with episode 8 entitled Babysitter’s Club and continues through the episodes Two Men and a Baby and Portal Cat. The evil Orson Ooze has thrown out his previous creation, the Moon Monster (Kyle Dooley), and is baking up a new entity to destroy the Space Riders. When the dinger goes off on his cooker he reaches in and pulls out a lovely tabby cat.
Ken has agreed to babysit Philip’s boss’ baby when he hears a swooshing sound and finds the baby is gone. Ken also notices there is suddenly a tabby cat in the apartment.
While desperately searching for the baby, Ken passes the cat and tells it to get out of there.
Ken doesn’t notice that when he throws a pillow over his shoulder it disappears just before it reaches the cat. But they do notice this later when Moon Monster points out the cat and Ken tries throwing a fluffy pink bath sponge and it also disappears.
Philip scans the cat with his brain power and learns that it is a Portal Cat (played by cat actor Lancelot). Anything getting too close to the cat will be sucked to another place, which is what has happened to the baby, not to mention the felonious chair in the apartment.
Philip explains that inside the Portal Cat is a Mirror Cat through which they can return. Ken decides to jump into the Portal Cat with a cable attached but this doesn’t work as planned.
Both Portal Cat and Mirror Cat (not a real cat, just a cat figure covered with mirrors) made it into the show’s theme credit.
This is a very funny series well worth checking out, but be sure to watch it from the beginning!
