Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Master spy Lance Sterling (voiced by Will Smith) likes to operate alone but finds himself having to work with a nerdy tech named Walter (voiced by Tom Holland).
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): From a young age Walter has wanted to save the world by creating non-violent weapons to use against bad guys. One such weapon is a glitter cloud bomb, which he demonstrates for his mom. Afterwards he says, “I also want to add from kitten visuals to trigger the orbitofrontal cortex.”
Years later we see Lance infiltrating a gang of Yakuza when he finds himself surrounded. He sets off what he thinks is a bomb but instead detonates off a glitter cloud with an adorable orange and white kitten playing. The Yakuza all stop to sigh, as does Lance, until he snaps out of it and escapes.
Back at headquarters, Lance steps into an elevator and straightens his jacket. Some of the remaining glitter clouds up, producing adorable kitten heads around him. His coworkers all sigh and coo. When Lance tugs on his jacket again moments later, only the sound of the kittens mewing can be heard.
Later in Walter’s home we see a black cat clock with the swinging tail and shifting eyes on the wall.
The cat glitter bomb is used again when Lance and Walter are fighting the main bad guy Killian (voiced by Ben Mendelsohn).
During the fight, Lance, Killian and an agent named Marcy (voiced by Rashida Jones) are spritzed with truth serum. Marcy admits, “I have five cats, each named after a member of New Kids on the Block! John, Joey, Jordan, Donnie and Danny!”
Finally at the end of the film as Lance and Walter drive off together another cat glitter bomb is seen.
Final Mewsings: What do you do if you love cats but hate glitter??
