Synopsis: Captain Hardt (Conrad Veidt) is a decorated German submarine commander who is assigned to act as a spy in the Orkney Islands in an effort to destroy British ships.
Kitty Cameo: Early in the film we see Anne Burnett (June Duprez) as she prepares to leave a Scottish inn to make the trip to Orkney as part of a teaching assignment. As she is about to leave a car drives up outside, causing a dog to bark. A cat is seen sitting in the window looking out as the car drives up.
The cat then observes the chauffeur in a long coat getting out to open the door for the passenger.
The inn’s housemaid Maggie (Esma Cannon) peers out of the window with the cat to see who is exiting the car.
Finally we see a woman’s body draped in furs stepping out of the car from the cat’s point of view.
Final Mewsings: When it comes to war, cats are happy just to be observers!
