Synopsis: Based on the play by Elmer Rice, a day in the lives of several families living in a Hell’s Kitchen tenement boils into intense drama.

Kitty Cameos: The film opens on a sweltering day in New York. Children are playing in the water from a fire hydrant. Then an ice man is seen breaking up a block of ice and carrying part of it away. A chip of the ice is melting on the sidewalk and a small cat approaches it and starts to sniff. The cat then runs as several boys scramble to grab the precious piece.
