Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Egyptian cat goddess Keshra demands suicide of all local cats who are then transformed into young, beautiful naked women charged with seducing and exterminating human men.
Featured Feline: This Troma comedy stars a long-haired black cat named Cleo (credited as cat actor Esmerelda Huffhines). Cleo walks through the opening credits.
Cleo is nearby when an elderly woman calls her for food. This is just before the woman is drawn to the attic of her home where she finds the Egyptian statue that causes all of the chaos.
Kitty Carnage Warning! Poor Cleo is the first victim as she wanders into a road and is hit by a truck. Riding in the truck is Ralph (Dave Cox), the poor slob who’s going to get seduced by Cleo in human form. We should clarify that all the violence against cats in this film is carried out on very unrealistic-looking cat dummies.
At one point Cleo even returns to cat form.
Kitty Cameos: A crazy cat catcher named Warren (Gary Graves) chases after neighborhood cats who seem very good at eluding him.
Several shots of barn cats are inserted into the film when Keshra calls on all the kitties to commit suicide (again, cat dummies flying everywhere!)
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Warren isn’t really as crazy as he first appears as he knows something is going on with the local cats. A standout scene in this low budget mess is when Warren and Ralph interrogate a bored tabby cat for information.
Bloopers at the end of the film feature the tabby cat and Cleo and show how the director often had to hold the cats in place to keep them on screen.
Final Mewsings: Even the cats didn’t want to be in this movie!
Many thanks to Nick Wale for letting us know about the cats in this film.
