Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on the popular Tintin comics by Hergé. Tintin (voiced by Jamie Bell) and his faithful dog Snowy ends up on a treasure hunt, the results of which could have important consequences.
Cartoon Cat: Tintin is looking for his magnifying glass and Snowy brings it to him. As Tintin turns around, he is suddenly faced with the giant face of a Siamese cat looking through the glass.
Snowy starts chasing the cat, who jumps up on a chair.
Tintin grabs for the cat but knocks over the chair, flipping the cat up to a ceiling fan where it clings for a few moments before falling down on Tintin’s head.
The cat then climbs some drapes before running along some shelves, knocking vases and other items down.
One of the items which breaks is a model of a ship. This uncovers a clue which TinTin does not see at first. The cat jumps out the window.
Later when Thomson and Thompson are paying a call on Tintin, one of them trips over the cat and falls down the stairs.
The last we see of the cat is when the men are leaving and Snowy stops the Siamese from going out the front door.
While not named, the Siamese cat is a direct adaptation from the original comic the film was based on called The Secret of the Unicorn. Known as the Marlinspike Hall Cat, the kitty is a stray who lives on the grounds.
There were even figures made of the cat and canine acquaintances.
Final Mewsings: How many adventures would have been missed if a cat hadn’t been chased by a dog?
Many thanks to Mark Murton for letting us know about the cat in this film.
