Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains minor spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Classic gritty city crime story about an ex-con named Emmerich (Louis Calhern) who gets out of prison and is looking for a backer for his planned heist of a high-end jewelry store. Amongst those recruited for the job is a hooligan by the name of Dix Handley (Sterling Hayden) who is looking for a big payday so he can leave the city once and for all.
Kitty Cameo: In one scene, Dix visits the restaurant of his friend Gus (James Whitmore) where he left his gun earlier while being chased by police. A cat is eating from a bowl on the counter as Dix enters, much to the chagrin of a truck driver looking through a magazine.
The driver sneers about the cat, saying that he runs them over whenever he has the chance. Gus proceeds to throw the truck driver out of his establishment. The cat remains on the counter for the remainder of the scene.
Final Mewsings: We reserve the right to refuse service to people who hate cats.
