Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Original footage not included in the original Grey Gardens documentary from the Maysles Brothers.
Reality Cats: The Beales lived with numerous cats in their dilapidated house, and many of them are seen and featured in this previously unseen footage.
A discussion takes place between the women and Jerry Torre about the cats having fleas embedded under their skin. Edith tells Jimmy he is going to remove the fleas but Edie says that he shouldn’t, it should be left to a veterinarian.
Another cat is seen walking away from Edie in the garden. She is calling it Jimmy and Pinky and says she can’t tell which cat it is, then asks the brothers if the cat had one eye or two. When the reply is “one,” she says it is Pinky but she doesn’t know how Pinky got out of the house.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): One cat is seen sleeping on Edith’s bed and is startled when Edie dances into a table. The cat’s name is Pippy and Edith holds the cat up for the brothers to film.
Pippy is also seen later looking at a painting which is being shown by Lois Wright.
There is also a litter of kittens born that are shown on Edith’s bed. Edie insists that they are not going to start the whole “breeding” thing again.
Final Mewsings: We know Edith and Edie loved their cats, but they could have at least had them spayed and neutered.
