Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: A swindler named Honest John (Phil Silvers) sells the Clampetts various landmarks around Washington D.C.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): Elly May (Donna Douglas) returns to the Clampetts’ hotel room where Granny (Irene Dunne) and Jed (Buddy Ebsen) are waiting. She carries a box and says she has a surprise for them. It turns out to be four adorable kittens. “Ain’t they cute?” she coos.
Jed points out that they’re cute but the last thing they need is more critters. Granny tells her to take them back. Elly May then explains that she’s already named them after Presidents. She picks up a ginger tabby with white legs. “This one here is George Washington.”
Next she picks up a white kitten. “This one here is Abraham Lincoln.”
Next is a gray and white tuxedo kitten. “And this one is Theodore Roosevelt.” “Take ’em back, Elly,” Granny begs.
Elly May then picks up a cream and white tabby kitten. “This one is Jefferson Davis,” she explains. “He can stay!” Granny states. Jed objects, pointing out that they have so many critters already that Mr. Drysdale has to look out for them. “One poor little confederate kitten ain’t no bother,” Granny insists.
Final Mewsings: Will confederate kittens be banned?
