Synopsis: A mix-up by the bank leads the Clampett family to believe their bank account is overdrawn.
Cinema Cat: As the Clampetts try to figure out ways they can make money to cover their expenses, Elly May (Donna Douglas) is seen with her animals. The scene opens with a shot of Rusty, the Clampett’s cat, sitting on a table. Orangey reprises his role in the series.
A pigeon lands on the cat’s back. This trick was first featured in the episode Jed Plays Solomon.
The camera pulls back to reveal Elly May and her pa Jed (Buddy Ebsen) standing beside the table where Elly’s critters are gathered. “How ’bout Rusty, my swimmin’, bird lovin’ cat, Pa? Do I have to sell ‘im?” “Well, I tell ya, Elly,” Pa replies, “We do need the money. And swimmin’, bird-lovin’ cats ain’t too common. He might bring a good price.”
Elly tearfully asks about some of her other animals, including her dog Little Arnie. Jed’s heart melts and he assures her that they’ll make so much money doing odd jobs that selling her animals would probably bring in too much. He then encourages her to turn ’em loose. She happily picks up Rusty and gives him a hug before placing him on the floor.
Final Mewsings: You can’t put a price on a cat.
