Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: At the turn of the century, a lumber baron named Jim Fallon (Kirk Douglas) sets his sights on the large Sequoia trees of the Pacific Northwest, but a group of Quakers including Alicia Chadwick (Eve Miller) have devoted their lives to preserving the giant trees and are determined to do everything they can to stop Fallon.

Featured Feline: After Fallon’s cohort, Walter ‘Yukon’ Burns (Edgar Buchanan) changes his loyalty to the town and the Quakers, a plan is needed to keep Fallon from sending in the land claims which will enable him to seize the property owned by the church.  Stating that they need a “cataclysm,” a plan is hatched between Yukon and Alicia in which she takes her cat to the post office after hours.  Moments later Yukon shows up with several dogs, which “accidentally” chase the cat through an open window, knocking over an oil lamp in the process and burning the post office to the ground.

While it’s fun to see the cat playing such a pivotal role in the plot to take down Fallon, one can’t help but notice that whenever the cat has to make an appearance on screen upon a certain cue, someone off screen tosses it into the shot or into actress Eve Miller’s arms.

Final Mewsings: Cats on screen are great.  But they shouldn’t be tossed there.
