Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Cats just love Lotus Cat Food and the people who make it, not to mention the people who are in it!
Cat Cattle Call: The film begins with a long-haired calico cat meowing outside a door while it is raining. The woman and man inside the home don’t seem too concerned, but the woman finally gets up to let the cat in. The cat immediately attacks her, scratching her face. As with all of the cat attacks in this film the cats don’t seem very vicious and the actors who are being “attacked” have to hold the cats to them and pretend to be attacked.
The cat attacks are happening more frequently but no one knows why, even when a nurse named Angie (Monika Kelly) feeds her Siamese cat Baby Doll some of the canned Lotus cat food and the cat immediately turns on her boyfriend, Dr. Glass (Sean Kenney). The couple set out to try to figure out what is going on.
What is happening is the Lotus Cat Food Company has had to find a cheaper meat alternative and have hired a grave robber to supply them with human corpses for their meat. The cats love the taste of human flesh so much that they start to nibble on their owners. They also start to hang around the outside of the Lotus factory. It’s intentionally ironic the cat food’s slogan is “For Cats Who Love People.”
Kitty Carnage Warning! Another victim is Annie (Mary Ellen Burke) who is attacked and has her throat chewed by a black tom cat she cared for. Her neighbor runs in and throws the cat against the wall (this is not shown on screen). But the black tom ends up being dissected by Dr. Glass.
Another woman, Donna (Andy Collings) comes home to her Siamese cat who also eats Lotus cat food. Donna is later attacked by the cat while she is lounging on her sofa (in her underthings, of course).
In the end the bad guys making the cat food get their comeuppance and one of them justifiably becomes cat food himself.
Final Mewsings: Even finicky cats choose Lotus!
