Mack Sennett Comedies
Starring: Ben Turpin, Harry Gribbon, Madeline Hurlock
Directed by: Del Lord
Synopsis: A bumbling aspiring actor named Joe Magee (Ben Turpin) stumbles into doing a stunt for a movie being filmed. The director (Harry Gribbon) ends up casting him in the film only to find that Magee doesn’t take direction as well as they would hope and a series of zany misadventures occur.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Magee finds himself cast in a scenario where he is tied to a post in a basement that is rapidly filling with water. Unfortunately a fire breaks out elsewhere and the director and camera crew rush off to follow the fire engines, leaving Magee stranded. A dog is chasing a cat across the studio lot and both of them end up in the water, swimming circles around the helpess man.
It would appear that someone is actually beneath the water holding the dog and cat up as they swim, either that or they somehow taught the animals how to swim backwards at times.
The cat then climbs onto Magee’s head to escape both the water and the dog, but eventually jumps back into the water.
Purr Blur: Earlier in the short, Magee shoots the director’s straw hat off the man’s head with an arrow. The hat flips onto the floor where two cats are sitting, completely covering one of them.
Final Mewsings: Cats escaping floods will use their heads (or someone else’s).
