Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Theatrical producer Duke Davis (Ralph Cooper) has built up the talented and lovely Ethel Andrews (Lena Horne) but pretends to sell out her contract to get her to take an offer with a big-time producer that could launch her career.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): After losing his biggest talent, Duke bumps into an old friend named Doc Dorando (Laurence Criner) who is currently selling elixer. Duke accompanies him, assuring his friend that he can boost business by making a successful medicine show that will bring in the crowds. When Duke first enters Doc’s trailer, Doc nearly sits down and a cat screeches. A white cat bolts from beneath the man and Doc curses him out, calling the cat Satan.
During the medicine show, Doc prepares to show the audience his beautiful full head of hair which was supposedly restored with the elixer. Satan is seen on top of the trailer, watching a butterfly fluttering around.
Doc takes the hat off his head and shows his hair as the butterfly flutters past his head. The white cat leaps (or is rather startled by being pushed) off the roof of the trailer and lands on Doc’s head, pulling off the man’s wig.
The medicine show is run out of town and as they are driving away Duke suggests to Doc that they make sure his wig is glued on next time. Doc tosses the wig aside and it lands on Satan, who gets up from the bunk. Duke laughs as he sees Satan sitting on the floor with the wig on his back. Doc grabs for the wig as Satan runs off. Satan is not seen again.
Final Mewsings: Cats are fascinated by butterflies that come out at night.
