Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Molly (Janet Gaynor) is a barge cook on the Erie Canal who falls for Dan (Henry Fonda), an aspiring farmer working on the canal to earn money to buy a farm.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Molly owns a tuxedo kitten which is seen in several scenes, first on the boat she works on for Klore (Charles Bickford).
Klore’s boat comes into town and ties up next to the boat on which Dan is working. Molly wakes up with the kitten on her bed. She gets up and moves the kitten.
Molly is trying to hurry outside to look for Dan but the kitten mews. She stops to set her on the floor and pours some milk for her.
When Molly quits Klore’s boat she is offered a job on Dan’s boat and she brings the kitten with her.
The kitten is present as they sail away together down the canal.
A few months later we see the kitten again, only she has grown up a bit. After these few scenes the cat is not seen again.
Final Mewsings: She could have at least taken the cat to the farm with her!
