Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: L.A. police detective Russell Logan (Lou Diamond Phillips) reluctantly teams with psychic Tess Seaton (Tracy Griffith) to try to capture a serial killer who appears to be able to defy death.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): Russell owns a ginger tabby cat named Jack who is first seen eating pizza from a box while Russell works.
Russell crumples up a map out of frustration and throws it at Jack. As the cat runs away from the pizza box, it is clear some kind of cat food inside the box is what the cat actor was actually eating.
Jack is on hand for a Spring-Loaded Cat scare after Russell wakes up from a nightmare. Jack drops down on him from seemingly nowhere.
Seconds later Jack is hissing at something in the apartment.
Russell takes the cat’s reaction seriously and gets his gun. Jack runs ahead of him as Russell looks around. Oddly enough Jack does not appear in the film again, even though Russell brings Tess back to his place.
Another cute black kitten appears briefly near the start of the film as undercover police officer Carmen (Sue Giosa) is waiting in the location where Tess said the next murder was to take place. Carmen spots the kitten and stoops down to look closer. That is when she is grabbed from behind by the killer.
There is also a painting of a cat in the childhood room of the killer.
The animal actors were provided by Brian McMillan.
Final Mewsings: Cats shouldn’t just disappear part way through a movie!
Many thanks to Mark Murton for letting us know about the cat in this film.
