The Flintstones – “Flintstone and the Lion”

The Flintstones Season Four DVD

Original Air Date: January 23, 1964
Starring: Alan Reed, Jean Vander Pyl, Mel Blanc
Directed by: Joseph Barbera, William Hanna

Synopsis: Fred Flintstone (voiced by Alan Reed) and Barney Rubble (voiced by Mel Blanc) find a stray kitten on their fishing trip and Fred brings it home, only to find that when the kitty grows he’s actually a saber-toothed lion.

Cartoon Cats: When Fred and Barney find the baby lion he is an adorable little kitty.  Since he is actually a lion instead of a cat he doesn’t qualify as a true Cinema Cat, but he’s so darn cute we have to include a picture anyway!

The Flintstones - Flintstone and the Lion - lion as cub

The cats we will focus on here are the ones that are sitting on the backyard fence when Fred puts the cat, er, lion out.  The lion is seen sitting amongst the cats, who are yowling as cats will at night.

Wanting to join in, the lion lets out a huge roar, shaking up the cats around him.

Final Mewsings: Lions are just big kitty cats at heart.
