Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Girl meets boy and falls in love but their diametrically opposed viewpoints on religion lead to heartbreak and even prison.
Kitty Cameo: Near the end of the film the girl and boy are in prison. The warden (Noah Beery) locks them up in separate cells, handcuffing each inside so they can’t escape. As he and a prison matron exit the jail block, a black cat runs past them and up some stairs.
The warden freaks out, exclaiming, “That black cat ain’t goin’ to hoodoo me!” He picks up a chair and lobs it at the cat.
The cat runs up the stairs to another flight where a washer woman has been working. As the cat runs up the steps, it hits an oil lamp left on a step, knocking it down into a laundry basket and starting a fire that threatens the whole prison and everyone inside.
Final Mewsings: People cause their own bad luck, not cats.
