Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A young homeless man named Lucas (Paul Dano) and an unhealthy elderly bar owner named Jacques (Brian Cox) form an unlikely friendship.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): At the very beginning of the film Lucas is seen feeding a tiny calico kitten outside his cardboard box home.
Both the kitten and Lucas eat the food from the tin of meat.
Lucas is then seen holding and petting the kitten.
After Lucas is discharged from the hospital, he returns home to find the kitten waiting for him. He pets and holds the kitten again.
Kitty Carnage Warning! Sadly the next time we see the kitten it is hanging dead from a noose outside Lucas’ home. No explanation for this is given and it seems like an unnecessary moment. Fortunately it is obvious they used a fake kitten for the shot.
Final Mewsings: What is it with killing kittens in movies for no good reason?
