Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: An imaginative tale of hotel concierge M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) and his lobby boy Zero (Tony Revolori) who is devoted to him throughout the most incredible misadventures.
Kitty Cameo: Gustave’s lawyer, Deputy Kovacs (Jeff Goldblum) is seen arriving at the Grand Budapest Hotel with his silver-streaked Persian cat.
They exit the car and Gustave hands the cat over to Zero.
Later in the film Kovacs is sitting with Dmitri (Adrien Brody) and his sisters, as well as Dmitri’s right-hand thug Jopling (Willem Dafoe). Jopling is petting Kovacs’ cat as Kovacs informs them that he has their murdered mother’s best interests at heart and will not give in to their pressures.
Kitty Carnage Warning! In a fit of anger, Dmitri storms from the room. Jopling is quick to follow, but not before chucking the cat out through an open window. Kovacs is shocked and asks the sisters, “Did he just throw my cat out of the window?”
Kovacs looks out the window and sees his cat, flattened, outstretched and bloody on the ground below as a man standing beside the cat’s body looks up.
Purr Blur: In one scene Jopling is walking down a dark alley and black cat passes by, moving in the opposite direction.
Final Mewsings: Just because you’re mad at your lawyer, don’t take it out on his cat!
