Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: High-powered business consultant Lola (Valerie Pachner) tries desperately to hang on to her professional achievements despite growing pressure in her personal life, including having to care for her suicidal schizophrenic sister Conny (Pia Hierzegger).

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): After Conny is committed to hospital, Lola (Valerie Pachner) visits her neglected flat. As she looks around a ginger tabby cat jumps out the wardrobe and warily approaches her.

Speaking gently to the cat she entices it to her and is able to pick it up.

The cat remains nervous and soon struggles free and jumps down, scratching her in the process.

In the next scene, Lola is putting the cat in the care of a Pet Hotel for an undetermined period of time. She does ask that the kennel treat the cat gently, as it has been through a difficult time.

Much later in the film, preparing for Conny’s discharge, Lola has sold her sister’s old place and is preparing to have Conny move in with her, with the cat there ready to be reunited with Conny.

Lola brings Conny to the new apartment and as they talk the cat suddenly runs into the room much to the delight of Conny.

Conny scoops up the cat and hugs it to her. During the prolonged hug the cat looks increasingly uncomfortable, struggling against Conny’s tightening grip. Lola even tries to interfere but instead stands by to make sure Conny doesn’t actually hurt the cat.

The animal wrangler on the film was Karl Lang.

Final Mewsings: Sometimes cats just prefer to have the ground beneath their feet.
