Synopsis: Has-been sportswriter Eddie Willis (Humphrey Bogart) is hired by a crooked fight promoter named Nick Benko (Rod Steiger) to help promote a South American boxer they hope to promote (and fight fix) all the way to the championship.
Purr Blur: In one of the opening scenes in New York a car pulls away from the sidewalk. Further up are some garbage cans and a cat is standing on its back feet up against the can.
The cat jumps onto the can and starts to root around inside as the car almost hits a milkman before continuing down the street.
Final Mewsings: Cats and garbage cans; a cinematic staple.
