Lionsgate
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson
Directed by: Gary Ross
Synopsis: To save her little sister from competing, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers for The Hunger Games, a ruthless government-run televised competition in which there can be only one survivor.
Kitty Cameo: At the very beginning of the film we see Katniss and her sister Primrose (Willow Shields) in their home in District 12. As Katniss leaves to go hunting she looks over to where a black and white cat is sitting. The cat hisses at her. She replies by saying, “I’ll still cook you!”
The cat’s name is Buttercup and belongs to Primrose. Buttercup and Katniss have a tumultuous relationship at best. In this film Buttercup is shown as a black and white cat but in future installments he is recast as an orange cat, as in the books, due to requests by producer Nina Jacobson and the books’ author Suzanne Collins.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t make for very good eating.
