Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: An entry into The Adventures of Bud and Susie animated shorts. Bud and Susie see a man making taffy and decide to have a try making it themselves.
Cartoon Cat: Bud and Susie’s companion is a black cat designed in a similar fashion to Krazy Kat (at least as far as the ribbon goes). Some online sources state the cat’s name may be Scat. The kids come home after seeing the taffy man and Bud awakens the cat.
The cat changes from a nightshirt to a pair of pants.
As Susie cooks the taffy, the cat paces back and forth past the doorway, keeping a lookout for their mother. Occassionally the cat meows which changes to “All’s well.”
Once the taffy is cooked, the kids use the cat to help pull it. Susie hooks the taffy around the cat’s tail and Bud lures the cat to walk and pull with a saucer of milk.
Bud jump ropes with the taffy but the cat gets caught up when trying to do the same.
Eventually both kids and the cat get caught up in the sticky candy. And they also get caught by their mother!
The mother hauls the kids off to the bath to get them cleaned up. The cat manages to get free of the taffy but is covered.
The cat then washes itself off under a tap. When checking on the kids in the bath, the cat proclaims again, “All’s well!”
Final Mewsings: Cats usually try to avoid sticky situations.
