The Man in the Back Seat (1961)

by Ted Davis

Directed by: Vernon Sewell

Synopsis: Conscienceless minor league criminal Tony (Derren Nesbitt) recruits weak-willed loser Frank (Keith Faulkner) to help rob a local bookie (Harry Locke) of his winnings, but the mismatched pair don’t reap the rewards they anticipated from their ignoble efforts, unless they were counting on driving through much of the night with a grisly unwanted backseat passenger and an abrupt finish to their ill-judged adventure.

Purr Blur: Frank’s petulant wife Jean (Carol White) hears a grumbling cat outside her flat (by way of a Poor Cat Screech) and goes to investigate. The longhair, bicolor garbage-scrounging feline knocks off one of the trash lids (or more likely it was pulled off by someone via a wire off screen) before hopping down right as Jean appears in time to replace the fallen lid.

Final Mewsings: Here’s hoping that the trashcan cat had more success with his capers for the evening.
