Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: In this first episode of the series The Munsters are invited to a masquerade party being thrown by the parents of Marilyn’s (Beverley Owen) boyfriend while Eddie (Butch Patrick) stays home with an unsuspecting babysitter.
Featured Feline: This is also the first appearance of the Munster’s black pet cat, Kitty, a seemingly normal feline. When Eddie’s babysitter, Mrs. Morton (Lurene Tuttle) first looks around the house she sees the cat sitting on the back of a sofa.
Mrs. Morton comments, “My, what a sweet little kitty!”
Kitty opens its mouth and roars like a lion, taking Mrs. Morton aback.
Later Mrs. Morton strums a harp and as she walks away it strums in reverse by itself. Kitty then roars again and the raven in the clock pops out to say, “Nevermore! You catfink!”
Kitty is seen again sitting on a table by the fire.
Mrs. Morton is sitting in a chair, asleep and holding her knitting, when the sound of howling wakes her up. She isn’t sure at first if the sound had come from Kitty!
Final Mewsings: All cats have the heart of a lion but Kitty had the voice as well!
