Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Director Jan Troell’s lyrical yet hard edged saga, which began in The Emigrants, continues as the Nilsson family, headed by husband Karl Oskar (Max von Sydow) and wife Kristina (Liv Ullmann), establish their home in the remote and demanding Minnesota wilderness. While Karl Oskar adapts quickly and becomes comfortable in the new land, Kristina yearns unceasingly to return to her Swedish birthplace.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): As a nervous Karl Oskar waits in the Jackson home for the return of the ailing Kristina from the doctor’s office, he pets a pretty grey and white tabby kitten. When Kristina and her best friend Ulrika Jackson (Monica Zetterland) enter the house, Karl Oskar sets the kitten on the floor and rises to greet the pair.
Final Mewsings: When they’re not wantonly destroying your property, cats are unparalleled stress relievers.
