Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Milo (voiced by Pamela Adlon) falls in love with an alien posing as a Debbie.
Cartoon Cat: The Oblongs own a chain smoking cat named Lucky who is introduced after accidentally burning Bob Oblong’s (voiced by Will Ferrell) backside with his cigarette.
“That darn cat!” Bob exclaims from Pickle’s (voiced by Jean Smart) arms.
Kitty Carnage Warning! Lucky walks into a later scene and coughs violently. After several hacks, Pickles says Lucky hacked up a hairball. Upon closer inspection, she realizes it could a lung. At the end of the scene Lucky bats the hairball / lung out of frame.
Lucky appears once more when Bob has fallen over. He retrieves a cigar butt from Bob’s head and then starts to scratch Bob, who is helpless to stop the cat.
The characters were based on Angus Oblong’s book Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children. Several cats are shown during a making of featurette for the Oblongs which include a character called Evil Cat who mimics the actions of Lucky in the series. Also while Lucky is most likely named for Lucky Strike cigarettes, an earlier name for the cat character was Winston (another cigarette brand).
Final Mewsings: Smoking is bad for cats and everyone else!
