Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Dracula (Francis Lederer) travels to Carleton, California, a small mining town, and moves in with an unsuspecting family of middle class Americans.
Kitty Cameo: We see a little boy named Mickey (Jimmy Baird) running around the hillsides calling out the name Nugget. Nugget turns out to be his pet tabby cat who has somehow gotten into a mining cave and down in a hole. “Gosh, Nugget, what’re ya doin’ down there?” Mickey sighs. It would appear that something was smeared on one of the boards to keep the cat actor interested and on mark.
Unfortunately the train is coming early and Mickey has to leave Nugget where he is to alert his family. We do not see Nugget again, but after Dracula arrives he ends up taking up residence, coffin and all, in the caves. Mickey later comes crying into the kitchen to tell his mom and sister that he found Nugget dead in the mine, covered with blood. “Something killed him, Ma!” Mickey cries.
Final Mewsings: Someone really needs to make a sequel to this movie called “The Vampire Cat of Carelton.”
Many thanks to Ted Davis for spotting the cat in this movie!
