Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Samantha (Courteney Cox) has a nervous breakdown when her boyfriend dumps her but thinks she’s found her ideal man in new neighbor Michael (David James Elliott). Only a few hitches stand in her way . . . Michael’s French model girlfriend Isabelle (Kimberley Davies), the mild mannered, eccentric Henry (David Arquette) who is in love with Samantha, and the fact that Samantha is impersonating a psychiatrist to get closer to Michael.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Isabelle owns a white Persian cat named Pussy who sits next to her as she smokes some marijuana. When she demands that Michael take her to bed, Pussy’s cries can be heard.
Samantha owns a young Dachschund named Murray who runs into Michael and Isabelle’s apartment. He immediately starts chasing Pussy around the place, breaking Isabelle’s bong and a picture frame.
The usually “pussy” jokes ensue as the cat finds refuge on a high shelf.
Isabelle gathers her cat and insists Samantha get her dog out of there. Samantha tries to stall to gather more information on Michael but Isabelle isn’t having it.
The only other cat content is when Samantha visits her real shrink, Dr. Rosenberg (Carol Kane), in a mental hospital (Rosenberg has also suffered a nervous breakdown) and the woman hallucinates a Persian cat in the room.
Final Mewsings: Real or imaginary, cats prefer not to be the spark of pussy jokes.
Many thanks to Mark Murton for letting us know about the cat in this film.
