Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Walt (Jesse Eisenberg) and Frank Berkman (Owen Kline) are brothers who find themselves facing the uprooting consequences of their parents’ bitter divorce.
Kitty Cameo: When the parents Bernard (Jeff Daniels) and Joan (Laura Linney) call a family meeting to tell the boys about their separation, the boys ask what will happen to the cat. The long-haired gray cat is seen briefly. After this the presence of the cat is implied when various members are seen with a cat carrier which may or may not have actually contained the cat actor.
Later Bernard gets in a fight with Joan and demands the boys come with him. Frank does not want to leave but brings the cat to Walt to take.
The cat slips out of Walt’s hands and runs down the steps before ducking under a parked car.
Bernard runs out and reaches under the car, barely getting a hold of the cat. Just then he sees he is getting a ticket for double parking and loses his grip and the cat runs away. The cat is later mentioned but not seen again.
Even though the cat has such a small role in the film he is still present on the movie’s poster.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t like it when people put them in the middle of their fights.
