Starring: Gene Kelly, Lana Turner, Vincent Price, June Allyson, Van Helfin
Directed by: George Sidney
Synopsis: A fun, colorful adaptation of Alexander Dumas’ classic story about D’Artagnan, a young nobleman who hopes to join the King’s Musketeers and his adventures in and around the French Court with his fellow swordsmen, Athos (Van Heflin), Porthos (Gig Young) and Aramis (Robert Coote) and the girl of his dreams, the lovely Constance (June Allyson.) To thwart them is the scheming Cardinal Richleau (Vincent Price) and his right-hand woman, Lady de Winter (Lana Turner.)
Kitty Cameo: A brief but effective cat cameo comes when D’Artagnan gives himself up to Cardinal Richleau in the palace in the hopes of saving Constance. The Cardinal deviously explains that he wants the Musketeer to be a lieutenant in his guard. He then sends D’Artagnan off with the Countess de Winter. At the beginning and end of this scene, the Cardinal is petting a tabby cat which he holds in his lap.
Final Mewsings: This film is just one example of how stroking cats helps evil minds to plot.
