Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on the play by Horton Foote. Mrs. Carrie Watts (Geraldine Page) is an elderly woman living with her son (John Heard) and less-than-compassionate daughter-in-law, who do not understand her desire to visit her childhood home.
Kitty Cameo: Mrs. Watts is spending the night in a bus station when the Sheriff (Richard Bradford) enters. A tabby and white cat is sitting on the floor preening itself. The Sheriff stoops down to pet the cat.
Picking up the cat, the Sheriff walks to the station agent’s office, looking back at Mrs. Watts sleeping on a bench.
Kitty Carnage Warning! The Sheriff decides the best way to wake up Roy (Kevin Cooney), the station agent, is by throwing the cat on him. Unfortunately as Roy awakens and flails about he manages to grab the poor cat by the head and toss it aside. The cat understandably does not show up again.
Final Mewsings: Cats should only wake people up of their own volition.
