Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Dr. Abby Barnes (Janeane Garofalo) is a successful radio talk show veterinarian who answers calls about pet problems but is insecure about herself. When a handsome man named Brian (Ben Chaplin) asks Abby out there is some confusion and he eventually comes to mistake her neighbor and friend Noelle (Uma Thurman) for her, leading to romantic complications.
Featured Feline: While Brian’s dog Hank steals much of the show, Abby does own a tuxedo Norwegian Forest cat whose name is never mentioned for some strange reason.
The cat appears in several scenes in Abby’s apartment, such as when Noelle’s brute of a boyfriend accidentally knocks on her door.
The cat is also prominent in the scene in which Abby and Brian spend seven hours on the phone one evening.
The cat seems startled by the noises Abby makes while having phone sex with Brian!
Finally the cat is present when Brian learns the truth about who Abby is. It’s just a shame that the cat wasn’t given the prominence he or she deserved in the movie.
Kitty Cameo: There is another cat which appears in the film; a long-haired tabby which Abby and Brian are seen feeding and petting on the Santa Monica pier.
Final Mewsings: Cats have names, too!
