Synopsis: Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) is released from prison after serving hard time for a violent crime only to find the world is not ready to forgive her for her past.
Kitty Cameo: Ruth is looking to reconnect with her younger sister, Katie (Aisling Franciosi) who has been adopted by the Malcolm family. Katie is resting at home after a car accident, sitting on a couch with a tuxedo cat.
After her mother and father leave, her sister Emily (Emma Nelson) enters and sits with her.
Later Emily and the cat are on the couch watching with concern as Katie seems distracted while playing piano.
The cat is seen once more when Emily ditches school and comes back into the house to try to find some information about her sister’s past.
Purr Blur: After Katie’s accident, she and Emily are lying in the hospital bed watching viral videos. A black cat is jumping over a wall of toilet paper rolls.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t care about our past.
