Synopsis: An elderly woman named Mrs. Margaret Ross (Edith Evans) struggles through a lonely existence where she is exploited, confused and, worst of all, forgotten.

Kitty Cameos: Throughout the film several street cats are shown living around the poor area where Mrs. Ross lives. Many are seen during the opening credits.

Later in the film, Mrs. Ross is cruelly abused by a woman out to steal money from her. She is given alcohol and left drunk by her home. Having passed out, Mrs. Ross is found the next morning horribly ill. A black kitten is running around beside her.

Another black cat (or perhaps the same one?) is seen crossing the road.

This or another black cat is then seen eating from a garbage can as Mrs. Ross goes to the dustbin. She asks the kitty if it wants a saucer of milk, but the cat doesn’t respond. “Oh, next time,” Mrs. Ross says dejectedly as she walks away.

Final Mewsings: Poor cats and people should not have to suffer.
