The Woman Racket (1930)

by Linda Kay

Directed by: Albert H. Kelley, Robert Ober, Paul Bern

Synopsis: Police officer Tom (Tom Moore) falls for Julia (Blanche Sweet), a pretty girl he meets while raiding a nightclub. Their marriage hits the rocks, however, when Julia wants to return to her former life as a singer for the club’s seedy new owner Chris (John Miljan).

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): After finding out that Julia has accepted money from Chris to return to the club, Tom storms down to confront the man. He finds Chris sitting in his office with a longhair tabby cat on his lap.

The cat seems very content in the man’s lap, snuggling up to him. Tom throws the money Chris gave Julia at him, hitting the man’s hand and making the cat cringe.

Tom leaves in a huff but both Chris and the cat seem wholly unfazed by the visit.

Final Mewsings: Gangsters or cops; to a cat a lap is a lap.
