Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: Harry Kilmer (Robert Mitchum) is approached by a friend named George Tanner (Brian Keith) to go to Japan to rescue the man’s daughter from Japanese mobsters.  In Tokyo, Harry is reacquainted with friends and lovers alike and finds himself on the wrong side of the dreaded Yakuza.

Kitty Cameos: When Harry arrives in Tokyo he stays in the home of his friend Wheat (Herb Edelman).  Wheat has a predilection for cats and is seen holding an adorable Himalayan kitten throughout most of his scenes.

There is also at least one other kitten in the home, a black and white one we see briefly as it crosses the room behind Harry Kilmer.

The cat can be seen in the background of several scenes.

But usually it is seen sitting on Wheat’s lap.

In one scene, armed gunman enter Wheat’s home and attack the occupants.  Wheat is upstairs holding the kitten and walks toward the stairs.  A man points a gun at him and he holds one hand up while the other hand hangs on to the kitten.  As far as we know the kitten survives the ensuing gunbattle.

Final Mewsings: Don’t shoot!  I have a cat!
