This review contains a Kitty Carnage Warning!
Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The town of Sheffield, England, deals with the horrific aftermath of a nuclear attack in this British made-for-television film.
Kitty Cameo: The main character, Ruth Beckett (Karen Meagher) pets a tabby cat while with her parents (Henry Moxon and June Broughton).
Ruth goes to the window with the cat and watches as her fiancee Jimmy (Reece Dinsdale) and his parents approach the home.
She sets the cat down to meet him at the door.
Later Ruth opens a tin of food for the cat.
The cat is also seen lying on a bed.
Kitty Carnage Warning! Unfortunately when the nuclear bomb is detonated it takes out the poor cat, who is seen writhing on the ground, suffocating. According to IMDb, the cat actor was actually just enjoying rolling in some catnip and the film was reversed to make the cat look as if it was suffering.
Cat Corpse: Ten years in the future, children are learning about the skeletons of various animals from old VHS tapes. A cat skeleton and stuffed cat are shown on the screen.
Final Mewsings: Cats wouldn’t mind nuclear war if it always involved catnip.
Many thanks to Mark Murton for providing us with information about the cat in this film!
