Synopsis: Master thief Elizabeth Lipp (Melina Mercouri) longs for the priceless emeralds set in the hilt of a Turkish dagger on display at the Topkapi museum. She enlists fellow expert pilferer Walter Harper (Maximilian Schell) to assist in the heist. But their patsy, Arthur Simon Simpson (Peter Ustinov), who is duped into smuggling the illicit equipment needed for the job into the country, may turn our to be their biggest foe . . . or friend.

Purr Blur: As we see Topkapi being closed up for the night by various guards, a tabby and white cat sits just outside the main gates as they swing shut.
