Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The toys now belong to Bonnie (voiced by Madeleine McGraw) who makes her own friend named Forky (voiced by Tony Hale) who keeps trying to throw himself away, leaving Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) struggling to protect him.
Cartoon Cat: The story leads the toys to an antique store where they find Bo Peep (voiced by Annie Potts). Forky is being held by a girl doll named Gabby Gabby (voiced by Christina Hendricks) in a cabinet in the middle of the store. Bo Peep points out that to reach it they must get past a tabby cat named Dragon. Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) says “We can handle a cat.” “No,” contradicts a tiny toy policewoman named Giggles McDimples (voiced by Ally Maki), “Not this one.” Dragon moves away, revealing half of a mangled toy behind him.
They come up with a plan to get over the open space by having Duke Caboom (voiced by Keanu Reeves) jump it on his motorcycle with Woody riding along.
Duke falters during the jump but Woody is able to get himself and a line of string across. Duke Caboom lands near Dragon but gets up and rides away, the cat chasing him as Caboom asks, “What’s new, pussycat?”
Bo Peep gets across and helps Woody free Forky from Gabby Gabby. But on their way back they are attacked by Gabby’s ventriloquist dummy lackeys on both sides, and this leads to a tug of war over the open space. Dragon, who is trying to get at Duke Caboom, turns back and starts leaping up into the air trying to get Woody.
During the struggles, Forky falls to the floor and Dragon starts pawing at him.
Seeing Forky in trouble, Woody jumps down and lands on Dragon’s back.
The other toys fall to the floor, including Giggles. Dragon approaches her and starts trying to catch her.
Eventually Giggles is thrown into the air and Dragon swallows her whole.
Gabby orders the dummies not to let Woody leave and so they jump down and surround Dragon, who is racing in a circle trying to get Woody off his back.
The other toys hang on to the line trailing from the cat and are pulled along. Duke Kaboom then leads them all out of the store through a small window.
Once outside, Dragon runs in another circle before slamming into a dumpster.
Dragon then hacks up Giggles before turning and going back into the store with a hiss.
When the first images of Dragon posted on the internet there was awe at how realistic the cat appeared. Indeed the animators surpassed themselves in bringing Dragon to life.
Final Mewsings: Cats can’t read choking hazard warnings.
