Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A realistically brutal look at sex trafficking into the United States follows a young man named Jorge (Cesar Ramos) who tries to rescue his kidnapped sister with the help of an insurance investigator named Ray (Kevin Kline).
Kitty Cameo: Ray is in Juarez when he called his wife Patty (Linda Emond). She is cradling a long-haired tortoiseshell cat on her lap as she speaks on the phone.
Implied Kitty Carnage Warning: Ray asks how the cat, whose name is Ramona, is doing. Patty tells him Ramona is not doing well and she plans to take her to the vet. In a later scene Patty tells Ray that Ramona had to be put down. Overhearing Ray’s portion of the conversation, Jorge asks who Ramona is. When Ray answers, Jorge is shocked that they have a cat as a pet. “I hate cats,” he admits, but later says that a couple living with a cat is “cool.”
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): At the end of the film, Ray is driving home alone. The camera pans to the backseat where we see a tiny tabby mix kitten is sitting in a basket.
Final Mewsings: Kittens and children deserve happy homes.
