Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains a MAJOR spoiler for this film!
Synopsis: A Scottish youth named Renton (Ewan McGregor) is a heroin addict who tries to get clean and stay out of trouble although his mates have other ideas.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): We will remind everyone that the cat in this movie comes with a major spoiler for the film. One of Renton’s mates is named Tommy (Kevin McKidd) and he is the sober one of the group until his girlfriend Lizzy (Pauline Lynch) dumps him. He then asks Renton to let him try heroin, is quickly hooked and also contracts HIV. The gang returns home for Tommy’s funeral and Renton is in the back with a man who is explaining exactly how Tommy died. Apparently Tommy had bought a tabby kitten for Lizzy to try to make amends but she didn’t want it.
The man goes on to explain that Tommy was stuck with his kitten. Since he was an addict, he didn’t care for the kitten, which was defacating all around his flat. Having HIV, Tommy contracted toxoplasmosis, suffered an abscess in his brain and died. He wasn’t found for some time until his neighbors complained about the smell.
The man finishes his story by assuring Renton, “The kitten was fine.”
Final Mewsings: Caring properly for a kitten is not only important for the kitten!
