Synopsis: A young woman named Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) hires a renegade marshall, Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne), to help her track down and capture her father’s murderer who is in hiding in Indian territory.
Cinema Cat: Orangey makes a notable appearance in this classic western. When Rooster brings Mattie to meet his family he enters a store.
He introduces Chen Lee (H.W. Gim) as his father. Orangey is sitting on the counter and Rooster introduces him as his nephew General Sterling Price.
General Sterling Price is seen again in the next scene when Rooster has shot a rat. Mattie picks the rat up by the tail and takes it outside. The cat watches with interest and then follows.
Mattie throws the rat outside and the cat runs out to eat it. Mattie scolds General Price saying that it was his job in the first place.
Later Mattie comes to pay Rooster his first down payment. As she leaves, General Sterling Price approaches Rooster, who picks up the cat and shows him the money.
At the end of the film, General Sterling Price is again present when Mattie’s lawyer shows up to talk to Rooster.
Final Mewsings: Why should a cat chase rats when Rooster Cogburn is around?
