U.S. Catman: Lethal Track (1990)

by Linda Kay

Also Known As: Catman in Lethal Track

Directed by: Godfrey Ho

Synopsis: Strange kung fu / comic book mish mosh with several storylines that don’t seem to have much of a connection. In the main story, an American dude Sam (Jonathan Isgar billed as Jonathan James) gets scratched by a radioactive cat and suddenly develops the useful ability to fight, as well as a lot of useless abilities like being able to turn on the off electronics by pointing his finger.

Kitty Cameo: The radioactive cat is being transported by a couple of numbskulls when two thugs decide to rob their van. One thug opens the back and is disappointed to find only a tuxedo cat in a small cage (with a large radioactive symbol in clear view).

The two Anerican friends, Sam and Gus, happen to be passing by and decide to jump in to stop the robbery. The cat looks understandably confused as the fight takes place in front of him or her.

As Sam gets knocked backwards into the cat’s cage, the cat supposedly scratches him, leading to his powers developing in a later scene (as well as him wearing a really cheap super suit complete with the cat logo seen in the opening credits). The actual cat is never shown again.

Final Mewsings: It takes a cat’s superpower of patience to sit through this movie.
