Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A famous Italian horror film director (Lucio Fulci essentially playing himself) finds the lines between fantasy and reality blurring when a series of gruesome murders occur which he believes he may have committed himself.
Faux Cat: The title of the film comes from a comment the director makes when he explains that he thinks he’s going crazy and describes it as being like a cat eating his brain. This is illustrated in the opening titles when a cat is seen eating brains. The cat in this scene is obviously a cat puppet (or perhaps a zombie cat?)
Purr Blurs: In one scene Lucio is seen walking down the street to his home. For just a second you can see an orange cat run up some stairs in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Later a prostitute is walking in an area filled with canoes, thinking she has heard someone there. As she walks amongst the boats a white cat jumps down at her feet and then runs away.
Kitty Cameo: Near the end of the film Lucio wakes up in a field to find an orange and white cat digging in the ground near him.
The cat unearths something which we won’t spoil here!
Final Mewsings: Only zombie cat puppets eat brains.
